Transportation resins

Transportation resins

Lighter vehicles use less energy, drive further and emit less. Composites made with AOC resins help OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers reach those goals. From iso transportation resins for durable body panels to rPET-based SMC, our solutions support cars, trucks, buses and trains in the transportation market.

    How composites reduce vehicle weight

AOC formulations enable lightweight designs that replace heavier materials, consolidate several functions into one moulded part and reduce the number of components and fasteners. The result is lower mass while maintaining the durability, stiffness, impact performance and production efficiency each application requires. Our lightweight vehicle case study shows this in practice.

Iso transportation resins for durable parts

Isophthalic resins bring toughness and hydrolysis resistance to parts that face road spray, weather and temperature cycles. Examples include:

    • Palapreg® P 15-01, an isophthalic SMC resin with high toughness and crack resistance.
    • Palapreg® P 152-02 X, an isophthalic polyester with improved hydrolysis resistance.
    • Synolite™ 0278-C-2, an isophthalic resin for hand lay-up, injection moulding, RTM and wet compression moulding.

    SMC/BMC, RTM and pultrusion

AOC offers resin and compound solutions for SMC/BMC, RTM and infusion, hand lay-up and pultrusion. Palapreg® low-profile systems enable Class A surfaces, while Daron® 8151 and 8180 are high-performance SMC resins for structural parts with carbon and glass fibers. For trains and buses, fire-retardant formulations support the safety requirements of the railway market.

    Next™ transportation solutions

Many OEMs want to introduce renewable or recycled raw materials. Palapreg® P 40-01 and P 78-01 are MgO-thickenable SMC/BMC resins based on post-consumer rPET, offering processing robustness and fast cure for large-volume series. Products with the Next™ label also support customers working towards end-of-life vehicle targets.
