Resin casting

Resin casting turns liquid resin, usually combined with mineral fillers, into solid parts with a precise shape and a high-quality surface. Kitchen worktops, washbasins, shower trays, polymer concrete drains and decorative objects are all made this way. AOC supplies a broad range of casting resins that help manufacturers achieve consistent quality, good filler wet-out and efficient demoulding.

What matters in a polyester casting resin?

A good casting resin has to carry high filler loadings while staying fluid enough to fill the mould and release air. It needs controlled reactivity to avoid cracks in thick sections and should cure to a hard, durable surface. Depending on the product, colour after cure, translucency and UV stability matter as well.

Ortho, iso and DCPD casting resins

AOC offers several resin chemistries for polyester casting:

• Ortho casting resins, such as Synolite™ 2082-N-1, a high-ductility orthophthalic grade, and A593-CST-00 for artificial stone and casting.
• Iso casting resins, including Iso/NPG grades such as Synolite™ 1862-N-3 and Synolite™ 1866-A-1 for solid surface and artificial stone with excellent colour after cure.
• DCPD casting resins, such as the Synolite™ 5750-A series, for cultured marble and polymer concrete with low viscosity and good filler acceptance.
• General-purpose resins, such as Synolite™ 1172-G-1 and the Synolite™ 1112-G series for cultured marble and polymer concrete.

Clear castings and encapsulation

For transparent objects, the requirements change. Synolite™ 0328-A-1 is a UV-stabilised casting resin for clear objects and encapsulations, designed to keep its clarity over time.

Next™ casting resins with a lower footprint

Polymer casting does not have to rely only on virgin raw materials. AOC's rPET-based casting formulations, such as the Synolite™ 1112-G series and Synolite™ 1210-U-1, use recycled PET from post-consumer bottles in the resin backbone. Many of these products carry the Next™ label, which identifies formulations with a defined sustainability benefit.
