Polyester polymer concrete

Polyester polymer concrete

Polyester polymer concrete replaces cement with a polyester resin binder. The result is a material that cures within hours, resists chemicals and frost, and can be cast into thin, strong and precise shapes. AOC supplies the resin binders that make polymer concrete work, from cost-effective ortho grades to rPET-based formulations with a lower footprint.

    Why use polyester polymer concrete?

Compared with traditional cement concrete, polymer concrete offers several benefits:

    • High compressive and flexural strength at a lower wall thickness.
    • Low water absorption and good resistance to de-icing salts and chemicals.
    • Fast curing, so moulds can be reused quickly in series production.
    • Smooth, dense surfaces that are easy to keep clean.

Typical products include drainage channels, cable and utility boxes, manholes, kitchen sinks, machine beds and precast elements for infrastructure.

    AOC resins for polymer concrete

The binder must wet out high loadings of sand and aggregate and cure reliably in thick sections. Our range includes:

    • Orthophthalic resins, such as A593-PCA-03, A593-RAM-00 and A567-PCA-04, for polymer concrete and other highly filled applications.
    • DCPD resins, such as Synolite™ 5750-A-4, combining low viscosity with good filler acceptance.
    • Unsaturated polyester casting resins, such as Synolite™ 1227-N-1 and Synolite™ 1275-A-1, for cultured marble and polymer concrete.

    Polymer concrete with recycled PET

AOC converts post-consumer PET waste into resin feedstock. rPET-based formulations such as the Synolite™ 1112-G series and Synolite™ 1210-U-1 are designed for cultured marble and polymer concrete. On average, rPET-based resins have a 16 % lower GWP than conventional unsaturated polyester resins, while in many cases offering comparable or better properties. Processing tips

Success with polymer concrete depends on filler grading, moisture content, mixing and the cure system. AOC Technical Service supports producers with resin selection, trials and process optimisation, so the casting process runs consistently from the first batch onwards. See also our casting resins.

Frequently asked questions about polyester polymer concrete

How fast does polyester polymer concrete cure?

Polymer concrete cures much faster than cement concrete, typically within hours depending on the cure system and temperature. This allows quick demoulding and efficient series production.

Which resin type is used most for polymer concrete?

Orthophthalic and DCPD resins are common choices because they combine good filler acceptance with cost efficiency. rPET-based binders are available for customers who want a lower footprint.
