Marine resins

Marine resins

Choosing the right marine resin determines how a boat looks, performs and ages. Hulls, decks and structural parts face constant water exposure, UV light and mechanical loads. AOC supplies marine resin solutions for hand lay-up, spray-up, RTM and vacuum infusion, supported by decades of experience in the marine market.

    Resin marine applications

AOC formulations are used for hulls, decks, structural laminates, skin coats, barrier layers, tooling and bonded assemblies. Each layer has its own job. The skin coat protects against osmosis, the structural laminate carries the loads and the tooling resin determines the surface quality of every boat that comes out of the mould.

    Iso and polyester marine resins

For structural laminates, polyester marine resins remain the workhorse. AOC offers:

    • Iso marine resins, such as Synolite™ 0288-I-2 and 0288-L-1 with Lloyd's and RINA approval, and Synolite™ 0280-I-4 for marine and swimming pools.
    • Ortho marine resins, such as Synolite™ 0188-I-2 and 0188-I-3 for hand lay-up and spray-up.
    • Iso/vinyl ester blends, such as Synolite™ 1389-I-2, for high-quality structural marine parts.

Vinyl ester skin coats and infusion resins

Where hydrolysis resistance is critical, Atlac® vinyl esters provide extra protection. Atlac® E-Nova MA 6325 and MA 6326 are low-styrene vinyl esters for marine skin coats, Atlac® E-Nova MA 6324 serves as a tie coat and Atlac® E-Nova MA 6215 is designed for marine infusion. Atlac® 580 ACT is a vinyl ester urethane for components and skin coats.

Next™ marine resins based on rPET

Boat builders who want to improve sustainability can choose the Synolite™ 4600 series. These rPET-based formulations are developed specifically for marine use, carry Lloyd's Register approval and are available for vacuum infusion (Synolite™ 4600-G-1) and hand lay-up (Synolite™ 4600-L-1). Iso resins for offshore

Offshore structures face salt water, wave loads and limited maintenance access. Iso, Iso/NPG and vinyl ester resins provide the hydrolysis and corrosion resistance these parts require. For oil and gas wells, P-101 is a styrene-free formulation for plug and abandon operations and leak repair.

    Moulds for marine production

Large hull moulds are usually made from composites. Neomould® tooling systems offer low shrinkage, dimensional stability and durable surfaces, even for very large tools.
