Heat resistant resins

When composite parts operate close to hot processes, engines or exhaust gases, standard resins reach their limits. Heat resistant resins from AOC maintain stiffness, strength and chemical resistance at elevated temperatures. Our portfolio ranges from high-heat polyesters to Novolac vinyl esters and Daron® high-performance systems. See all products with heat resistance.

    What determines resin heat resistance?

Resin heat resistance depends on the chemical backbone and the cross-link density after cure. A higher heat deflection temperature (HDT) and glass transition temperature mean the cured resin keeps its properties at higher service temperatures. Full post-cure is often essential to reach the values shown in the datasheet.

    Polyester heat resistance

Unsaturated polyesters can be formulated for better thermal performance. Examples from AOC include:

    • Palatal® P 61-02 and P 69-02, orthophthalic resins with high heat resistance for tanks and pipes.
    • Synolite™ 2155-N-1, a high-heat orthophthalic pultrusion resin for profiles and structural parts.
    • Synolite™ 1119-N-1, for continuous lamination with high HDT requirements.
    • Synolite™ 1862-A-1, an Iso/NPG resin for solid surface with enhanced thermal resistance.

Vinyl esters for heat and chemicals

Where high temperatures combine with aggressive chemicals, Novolac vinyl esters are the preferred option. Atlac® 590Z, Atlac® F086A and P-610 are high-heat Novolac vinyl esters for demanding corrosive environments, such as flue gas ducts and hot process equipment.

    Daron® for elevated thermal performance

Daron® combines epoxy-like thermal and mechanical performance with the processing efficiency of polyester. Daron® 45 and Daron® 220 are high-performance systems for elevated heat resistance and mechanical strength.

    Heat resistant tooling

Moulds that run at elevated temperatures need dedicated tooling resins. Neomould® 6800-W-1, 6800-I-1 and 6800-G-1 are zero-shrinkage, vinyl ester based tooling resins with elevated heat resistance.

Frequently asked questions about heat resistant resins

    What is HDT?

The heat deflection temperature (HDT) indicates the temperature at which a cured resin starts to deform under a defined load. It is a common way to compare heat resistant resins.

Do heat resistant resins need post-cure?

In most cases, yes. A full post-cure is often needed to reach the thermal properties shown in the datasheet.

    Choosing heat resistant resins

Service temperature, chemical exposure, load and process all affect which resin is suitable. AOC Technical Service helps you compare options and validate them in your own process. Contact us to find the heat resistant resins that fit your application.
