Electrical resins

Electrical components demand materials that insulate reliably, keep their shape under heat and can be produced efficiently in large volumes. That is where resin electrical solutions from AOC come in. Our thermoset formulations are used in switchgear, circuit breakers, housings, cable accessories and battery-related parts.

Why thermoset composites for electrical parts?

Composites based on unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins combine electrical insulation with dimensional stability and good heat resistance. Unlike metals, they do not conduct. Unlike many thermoplastics, they do not soften at elevated temperatures. With the right formulation, they can also meet flame-retardant requirements.

SMC and BMC for electrical applications

SMC and BMC are the most common processes for electrical parts produced in series. AOC offers dedicated Palapreg® resins and low-profile additives that enable precise, low-shrinkage mouldings with short cycle times. Palapreg® P 40-01 is a thickenable resin based on post-consumer rPET, developed for OEMs in automotive and electrical markets who want to include recycled raw materials.

    Molding powders and casting resins

For smaller electrical and electronic components, free-flowing molding powders such as Synolite™ 1835-N-0, Synolite™ 9193-N-0 and Palatal® M 606-22 are available. Synolite™ 1436-N-1 is an ortho resin for sealing and fixing cable ends.

    Iso and NPG electrical resins

When parts are exposed to moisture, outdoor weathering or harsh environments, iso and NPG chemistries add durability. Iso/NPG resins such as Palatal® A 410-01 offer improved resistance to water and chemicals, helping insulators and housings maintain their properties over a long service life.

    Electrical performance in pultrusion

Pultruded profiles for cable trays, ladders and structural supports often need electrical insulation combined with flame retardancy. AOC polyester and vinyl ester pultrusion resins can address both, together with structural performance and corrosion resistance.

    Next™ electrical solutions

Electrical OEMs increasingly ask for lower-footprint materials. rPET-based SMC and BMC resins carrying the Next™ label help them achieve this while maintaining processing robustness in existing production lines.

Frequently asked questions about electrical resins

Why are SMC and BMC popular for electrical parts?

They combine electrical insulation, dimensional stability and heat resistance with efficient series production and short cycle times.

Can electrical composite parts contain recycled material?

Yes. Palapreg® P 40-01 is an rPET-based SMC/BMC resin developed for automotive and electrical OEMs who want to include recycled raw materials.
