What makes a resin eco friendly?

There is no single definition. A resin can be more sustainable because it uses recycled or bio-based feedstock, because it emits fewer volatile organic compounds during processing, or because it enables lighter and longer-lasting products. AOC focuses on benefits that are measurable and relevant for the application.

The Next™ label: your guide to sustainable resins

The Next™ label identifies AOC products with a defined sustainability benefit, such as:

• Recycled feedstock, for example rPET from post-consumer bottles.
• Bio-circular raw materials.
• Reduced VOC emissions or styrene-free chemistry.
• A significantly reduced CMR content or a lower environmental footprint.

Polyester eco friendly options

Unsaturated polyester resins based on rPET have, on average, a 16 % lower GWP than conventional unsaturated polyester resins, while in many cases offering comparable or better properties. AOC offers rPET-based formulations for marine, CIPP, casting, sanitary, panels, pipes and SMC/BMC. See our rPET product overview for examples.

Keen to be Green

Keen to be Green is AOC's campaign around its rPET portfolio. At our plant in Ústí nad Labem in the Czech Republic, AOC has invested to convert post-consumer PET waste into a valuable raw material and ultimately into quality structural formulations. Styrene-free and low-emission resins

Lower emissions improve working conditions and help customers meet regulations. AOC offers styrene-free resins under the Beyone™ brand and other product lines, as well as low styrene emission formulations for open moulding.

Resin eco friendly beyond the product

Sustainability also covers the end of life. AOC supports work on reuse and recycling routes, such as cement co-processing of composite waste, and provides life-cycle data where available.
